Fraunhofer IGB

The Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB is one of 57 institutes of the

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Germany's leading organization for application-oriented research with research units in Europe, the USA and Asia. The majority of the 15,000 staff is qualified scientists and engineers. Its services are solicited by customers and contractual partners in industry, the service sector and public administration. Fraunhofer IGB in Stuttgart develops and optimizes processes and products for the business areas of medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, the environment and energy. Under direction of Professor Dr. Thomas Hirth, the Fraunhofer IGB is engaged in a broad spectrum of R&D in the fields of environmental biotechnology and bioprocess engineering, physical process technology, hydrodynamics, separation technology, and interfacial engineering and material sciences. At the Fraunhofer IGB, more than 220 experts in important fields such as chemistry, physics, biology and engineering work effectively together. Customers benefit from the synergies and multidisciplinary potential of the various disciplines at our institute, thus enabling novel approaches e.g. in tissue engineering, nanotechnology, industrial biotechnology, membrane processes and wastewater purification.
